About Us

Read and Connect

Our writers and photographers and producers aren't just observers, they're enthusiasts themselves. Their passion and expertise have attracted a combined circulation of over 2 million and a readership of more than 8 million to our 12 magazines, which are consistently recognized as the best in their fields. Each year professional societies single out Bonnier Corporation's titles and editors for their quality and coverage. In May, 2000, Saveur, renowned for its in-depth coverage of culture, food and wine, received the coveted Gold Award for General Excellence from the American Society of Magazine Editors. Caribbean Travel & Life won the prestigious Lowell Thomas Award as the best non-monthly travel magazine in 1999 and 2000. And in 2001, Sport Diver won a Lowell Thomas Award for the best travel coverage in a non-travel magazine.

Our magazine Web sites provide a whole other world of information coverage for enthusiasts. Our on-line users can search and compare databases offering tens of thousands of recipes, events, travel resorts and operators, tips and techniques, boats and active leisure products. With Web-exclusive content, interactive features, video and rich archives, the sites reach beyond the magazines, creating an additional 5 million real-time connections. And unlike uncertain dot-com instant communities, Bonnier Corporation has been connecting people with their passions for 25 years; we know our audience.

Come and Connect

We also bring our communities together through sponsored events. This year, anglers will vie for prizes at international billfish tournaments; Saveur's Passport will again bring New York's food community into Grand Central Station for a savory taste-off. And the Pro Water Ski and Wake Boarding Tours will deliver high-voltage thrills to thousands at sites in the U.S., Europe and Australia.

Tune In and Connect

Bonnier Corporation reaches across the airwaves, too. The Pro Water Ski Tour, now in its 17th season on ESPN, brings fast-paced tournament skiing, ski jumping and acrobatic wakeboarding into millions of living rooms. The world of big-money, big-game fishing comes alive in coverage of Sport Fishing Magazine's television show on the Outdoor Life Network.

Searching for Used Boats?

When people go to a search engine (i.e. Yahoo) and search for used boats, more people enter the search term "used boats" than any other term (i.e. used fishing boats etc.). In addition, people now, more than ever, simply put the exact term they are looking for in the URL (address) box because they believe the best have either built or acquired those words or terms. In other words, if you are looking for a Ford (car or information), most people know that "chances are great" Ford will be found by simply typing in Ford and adding the dot-com (thereby bypassing the need to go through a search engine). No different with used boats. Users anywhere in the world could simply type in usedboat or usedboats in their URL (address bar), add the dot-com and voila, the #1 website for used boats appears!

Is it smart to search only one website for the products or used boats I am looking for?

Absolutely not! There are many reasons why most people don't just look for (search), or list (sell), their item(s) on just one website. One such reason is because users (searchers and sellers) know that people search or sell on websites they find user friendly, fast and informative. In the online market for used boats, there are many websites. It is even possible that UsedBoats.com, one of the largest in the world, may not have the boat in its database, and furthermore it is even possible that our BoatRover, UsedBoats.com's proprietary and most technologically advanced used boats search engine on the Internet, can't find the used boat(s) the user is searching. Although this is rare, it is a fact. This is also true in reverse; when users search our competitor's sites.

When people are searching or selling a $1,000 or $25 million boat/yacht, it is not only smart to search or list on ALL major sites, but also essential for doubling or tripling exposure. By doing so, the desired result (find or sale) will, obviously, substantially increase.

As far as listing (selling) your boat, it is really this simple: If it cost $100.00 to list on the 2 top sites, (UsedBoats.com and another) and your boat sells for $10,000.00, your Cost Of Sales, or Marketing Cost (COS/MC), was a trivial 1% (one percent)! If you received $50,000.00 for your boat, your COS/MC was a mere 0.20% (one-fifth of one percent)!

Finally, there are some users that refuse to search certain websites if they had a problem or found their service to be poor. Therefore, always make sure you maximize your exposure.

How has the Internet changed the world for used boats?

We use the Internet for several reasons, but two MAJOR reasons. 1.) Information and; 2.) email. Searching for products has grown on the Internet by great leaps and bounds, but it has never deterred the "tire-kickers" that like to get out of the house, go down to the malls, shops, auto dealers or boat yards and look and feel what they can buy. However, what has changed is that the Internet offers a new means for us to find our product/service online and load ourselves with knowledge.

How does UsedBoats.com continue to help after a seller lists?

It is imperative for the seller to help the buyer in all aspects of the sale, but NOT at the cost of the buyer! UsedBoats.com has a "Buyer Assist Program" (located on the bottom right of all ads you view), that uses high technology retention software that already knows the information on the boat and it is ready to offer the buyer a no obligation insurance, finance and shipping quote. If you like them, great, if you don't shop elsewhere, we are only trying to help.

How Does UsedBoats.com Continually Offer New Industry First Innovations:

Simple. The quality of the people whom we have either hired or befriended. This question is perhaps the easiest aspect of our business to explain, but ironically, the hardest to understand. What some people find hard to understand is that the best code writers and programmers in the world care far more about the pride of their work, and their innovations that change the world, over their potential or actual monetary achievements. Ironically, it was this same desire or passion, seen throughout our company that bonded us together. From the beginning, we wanted to be the best used boats site in the world, and consequently did not focus on "what's in it for us?"

Here are just a few of our inventions/innovations:

  • BoatRover technology
  • Tech Operated Valet Service
  • Boat Quick View numbers
  • True Yacht MLS technology (i.e. masking technology)
  • Wish list (multi-site, w/daily notification) for UsedBoats.com or YachtBroker.com
  • Complete Website manager design/feature for users
  • Marketing and inventory-tracking tools
  • Application Service Provider (ASP) & CRM
  • Banner ad creation technology
  • View all photo's at once
  • Cross cultured servers (resulted in the fasted searches)
  • Buyer Assist Program

We will be there for you!

So many people have become skeptical of "boats for sale" websites due to all the "fly by night" or defunct nautical websites. We are not going anywhere. We are NOT a debt strapped company. We didn't borrow millions of dollars. We have grown organically. We have always respected that boating is for the outdoors. When the service of buying or selling a used boat is needed, it is our focus and goal to provide our users with the best, fastest and most technologically advanced website possible. Wait until you see how our customer service operates!

In conclusion

It is our belief that this site is as much yours as it is ours. As for our President, he would like to invite you to send any comments, suggestions or questions. We thank you so much for making us the #1 website for Used Boats!

Sincerely,

The Online Boating Team
